CABLE TELEVISION ADVISORY COUNCIL
Wednesday,  September 12, 2012

A meeting of the Cable Television Advisory Council was held on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at the Oliver Wolcott Library on South St., in Litchfield, CT.  A quorum was not present.  In attendance were Lucille Paige, Torrington;  Diane Knox,  and Gerry Gault, Litchfield;  Jeff Dunn, Thomaston.  

Also present from Cablevision were Jennifer Young,  Superv. Of Governtment Affairs;  Adam Falk and Pat Ryan.

Ms. Paige called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.

Ms. Paige reported that all students who received the Cable TV Advisory Council Scholarship sent thank you notes to this Council.

Ms. Knox reported that the balance in the treasury as of 9/12/12:  $633.30.

Mrs. Knox opened the discussion on the loss/negotiations between Fox and Cablevision and stated that consumers can obtain Fox 16 “online”.  Mr. Dunn reported on other alternatives but emphasized the loss of Channel 20; the Hartford Archdiocese station is a loss to those views/shut ins who rely on this programming for their spiritual reasons.  Mr. Dunn also inquired if Cable can over to use “redzone” go get NFL network through digital for a 45 day trial basis.

Mr. Dunn reported on the outage of the Cablevision internet service (August 21st). Some had no access to certain websites and some ports were not open with e-mail.   Ms.  Young reported the outage was due to hardware problems that since have been fixed.  Each customer having Cablevision internet will receive a $2.00 credit on their next bill.

Mr. Gault opened a discussion on the problem with DVR recording, where the closing/last portion (about 1 minute) of the program being recorded is lost.  Mr. Falk advised that some of the programs are running over the 1 hour timeline and into the next hour by one minute, but the DVR is set to record only up to the exact hour.  Mr. Gault asked if the signal sender can adjust to when to start and end recording of a program.  Mr. Falk referred to the congress in Washington and the 1984 Cable Act.

Texting in complaints from customer is on the horizon.

Ms. Paige declared the meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
